This resource is perfect for the school-based SLP. It contains screeners for articulation and language for elementary students. This research-based screener can be used to potentially identify a need for a comprehensive evaluation, aid in progress monitoring, or be helpful to develop present levels of performance in a variety of language areas. Using the references included, I created language reference sheets for a brief overview of expected language skills at approximate ages. Please remember, language development is NOT linear and skills can vary within age groups. That is why a comprehensive picture is necessary to diagnosis speech and language disorders. This is simply a tool in your tool-box – YOU are the brain. There is no criterion score for this screener. Once you administer the screener, check the language references pages and use your clinical expertise to decide whether this student is demonstrating age-appropriate language skills OR it is worth a deeper dive into their language abilities.
