Social stories can be a great tool for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. They can be used to teach developmentally appropriate behaviors associated with various social situations. Typically, social stories are paired with visuals which I have provided. My social stories will typically include four sentence types: descriptive, directive, perspective, and control. The key to social stories is making it personalized…so use these stories as a template and modify as needed. Use these social stories to:
Teach basic social skills
Teach understanding and appropriate responses in social situations
The stories included in this resource are meant for teachers, SLPs, and parents to use with children who have difficulty going to different places. They provide a narrative for the student to visualize what might occur when he/she goes to a certain place.
